Founded in 1888, American Shetland Ponies have been registered as a breed. Originally these ponies were bred to pull ore carts in the coal mines of the United States.

Thanks to selective breeding since the mid 1800's the American Shetland Ponies are distinguished from their British counterpart in that their bone structure is finer.  The finer bone structure causes their appearance to be sleek and refined as opposed to the draft horse appearance of the British Shetland.

The American Shetland Ponies share the temperament of their British Shetland relatives in that their spirit is even and gentle.  Our ponies are at home in the show ring as well as in a back yard with a child.  Their gentle disposition has lead to their being a favorite breed by children everywhere.
