First Annual Children's Fair June 10th:3-7pm

The Glenn Medical Center will be presenting their First Annual Children's Fair. It will take place out on the grass area at the Glenn Medical Center by Sycamore Street. There will be food, games, prizes, and lots of fun! Kids can bring their favorite doll or stuffed animal to get a "check-up" by the new pediatrician, Dr. Morgan Jenkins, and you'll be entered to win a trip for 2 adults and 2 kids to Disneyland! Concert in the Park
June 13th, 2009 - 5:30-7pm
Library Park - Orland
Orland First Christian Church is hosting a free concert in the park, featuring Lisa Daggs. Lisa and her band will be performing songs from her albums, along with some favorites. Food, soft drinks and snow cones will be sold to benefit the Livada Orphan Care in Romania. Livada provides full time residential care for over 50 children and teenagers so far and an ongoing ministry to another 500 children and teens who still live in state care in Romania. This year a team is being sent from Glenn and Butte counties to Romania to serve at a summer camp put on by Livada that will minister to these orphans. Contact:Gary Shields-530 865-0891.

American Federation of Motorcyclists Road Racing!

Thunderhill Raceway Park - Willows
Come out to Thunderhill Raceway Park June 13th-14th for the American Federation of Motorcyclists Road Racing Event. Over 300 riders will challenge death at every corner in hair raising wheel-to-wheel motorcycle racing that will scare even the spectators! It is the hardest and most dangerous racing in the world! The big races are on Sunday, June 14th. Admission is $10 per person.

The Community Wish Foundation is hosting their 1st Annual Brews & Blues Festival on June 27th, 2009 from 4pm-7pm at the Willows Memorial Hall. Orland's 100 Year

Centennial Celebration

-2009-

Did you know that Orland was first established as a town in 1875 and was incorporated on November 4, 1909? That's right! 2009 is Orland's big 100 year centennial celebration. Claire Arano, centennial committee co-chair, said the committee hopes to have several special events throughout the year. The main celebration will be a jubilee from September 4th through the 7th, 2009. For information about scheduling centennial events during the year contact Claire Arano at 519-7421 or co-chair Gene Russell at 865-9555.

Glenn County is located approximately 100 miles north of the City of Sacramento, California.  Most of Glenn County is located on the west side of the Sacramento River.  The elevation varies from 100 to 200 feet above sea level in the vast tracts of farm land located by the river. The elevation rises from the central  part of the county rapidly to the west, where mountain peaks are in excess of 6000 feet elevation.
 

Farming is the major industry.  The most common products are cattle, rice, wheat, hay, oranges, prunes, walnuts, almonds and corn.  As well, there are numerous dairies in the county.  Light industry is located in or around the cities of Willows, Orland, and Hamilton City.

Good fishing in Glenn County is available at numerous creeks, streams and reservoirs in the Coastal Mountain Range located in the western part of the county..  World class salmon and shad runs occur in the Sacramento River.  Easy, cheap or free  access to the Sacramento River is available for yourself or your boat.
Due to the great tracts land set aside exclusively for duck sanctuary, duck hunting in Glenn County is considered world class.  This abundance of ducks available for hunting brings hundreds of hunters from around the world to Glenn County.
